چکیده

In this paper we explore and validate the merits of using absolute and relative viewing distances from the screen as complementary input modalities for interactive systems. We motivate the use of viewing distance as a complementary modality by first mapping out its design space and then proposing several new applications that could benefit from it. We demonstrate that both absolute and relative viewing distance can be reliably estimated under controlled circumstances for both desktop and mobile devices using lowcost cameras and readily available computer vision algorithms. In our evaluations we find that viewing distance is a promising complementary input modality that can be reliably estimated using computer vision in environmentswith constant lighting. For environments with heterogeneous lighting conditions several challenges still exist when designing practical systems. To aid practitioners and researchers we conclude by highlighting several design implications for future systems. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Estimation of Parameters for an Extended Generalized Half Logistic Distribution Based on Complete and Censored Data

This paper considers an Extended Generalized Half Logistic distribution. We derive some properties of this distribution and then we discuss estimation of the distribution parameters by the methods of moments, maximum likelihood and the new method of minimum spacing distance estimator based on complete data. Also, maximum likelihood equations for estimating the parameters based on Type-I and Typ...

Estimation of Binary Infinite Dilute Diffusion Coefficient Using Artificial Neural Network

In this study, the use of the three-layer feed forward neural network has been investigated for estimating of infinite dilute diffusion coefficient ( D12 ) of supercritical fluid (SCF), liquid and gas binary systems. Infinite dilute diffusion coefficient was spotted as a function of critical temperature, critical pressure, critical volume, normal boiling point, molecular volume in normal boilin...

An Interactive Fuzzy Satisfying Method Based on Particle Swarm Optimization for Multi-Objective Function in Reactive Power Market

Reactive power plays an important role in supporting real power transmission, maintaining system voltages within proper limits and overall system reliability. In this paper, the production cost of reactive power, cost of the system transmission loss, investment cost of capacitor banks and absolute value of total voltage deviation (TVD) are included into the objective function of the power flow ...

Estimation in Simple Step-Stress Model for the Marshall-Olkin Generalized Exponential Distribution under Type-I Censoring

This paper considers the simple step-stress model from the Marshall-Olkin generalized exponential distribution when there is time constraint on the duration of the experiment. The maximum likelihood equations for estimating the parameters assuming a cumulative exposure model with lifetimes as the distributed Marshall Olkin generalized exponential are derived. The likelihood equations do not lea...

Detecting binocular 3D motion in static 3D noise: no effect of viewing distance.

Relative binocular disparity cannot tell us the absolute 3D shape of an object, nor the 3D trajectory of its motion, unless the visual system has independent access to how far away the object is at any moment. Indeed, as the viewing distance is changed, the same disparate retinal motions will correspond to very different real 3D trajectories. In this paper we were interested in whether binocula...
